Colouring outside the lines… That’s how I like to describe myself. I am a practicing non-conformist. By default (my stature, gender & race), I follow a doctrine of celebrating individuality and differences. I am who I am.

The song “Powerless” by Nelly Furtado provides a picture of others trying to present her in a certain light, denying her ethnicity and all that makes her who she is. If she is to conform to this mentality she would feel Powerless. But, instead she could care less. She is who she is and if anyone has a problem with that, “they can say what they want to say… Cuz this life is too short to live it just for you.”

I subscribe to this notion. It is too easy to get caught up in trying to controlling the perception that others may have of you. If you go down this path, you may find yourself trying to please everyone, losing sight of who YOU really are and you certainly can’t be happy. The best thing you can EVER be is yourself. Let people accept YOU for who YOU are. And if they don’t…. Well, they don’t deserve to know you.

As for me…. We’ll, I’m colouring outside the lines, so you can say what you want to say. Because this life is just too short to live it just for you.
